How long do porcelain veneers last?

With proper care, porcelain veneers can last for many years. Everyone's experience is different. Your daily habits and your overall oral health both affect how long your veneers stay in good condition.

To help your veneers look and feel their best, good oral hygiene is essential. That means brushing and flossing regularly, attending routine dental visits, and being mindful of habits that can damage your teeth, such as chewing on hard objects or having a lot of staining foods and drinks. If you grind your teeth, we may suggest a night guard to protect them.

How much do porcelain veneers cost?

Porcelain veneers at Nest are $1,700 per tooth. Your total depends on your treatment plan, including the number of veneers and how much customisation your smile needs. For illustration, four veneers come to $6,800, six to $10,200 and eight to $13,600.

Because every smile is different, you will receive a written quote after your comprehensive consultation and digital assessment, and before any treatment begins.

At Nest, we believe you should know the numbers before you decide anything. Payment plans are available, and our team is happy to talk you through the options. Health fund rebates for cosmetic work vary by fund and level of cover. We check with HICAPS on the day, so your gap is confirmed, not estimated.

Complementary procedures to porcelain veneers

Veneers change the appearance of your teeth. Sometimes other treatment is recommended alongside them to support both appearance and function.

Gum recontouring may be considered where there is excess or uneven gum tissue, to help balance the gumline with your teeth. Where teeth are missing, or there are more complex functional concerns, treatments such as dental implants or broader restorative care may be discussed as part of an overall plan. Are there alternatives to dental veneers?

If veneers are not the right fit, we will talk you through other options for your concerns. Veneers can address several issues at once, but many of the same concerns can be treated individually:

  • Whitening may be enough if colour is your main concern. A take-home kit is from $400.
  • Composite veneers are shaped directly onto the tooth and cost $1,190 per tooth. They usually involve less preparation, but they do not wear as well as porcelain.
  • Invisalign can address crowding and spacing without changing your teeth. It starts from $4,500.
  • Dental crowns suit teeth that are heavily damaged or weakened. A porcelain crown is $1,970.

Do porcelain veneers hurt?+

Your comfort matters to us. Depending on your needs and goals, some tooth reshaping may be needed before your veneers are placed. If so, we can help keep you comfortable with local anaesthetic, and we will talk through other comfort options at your consultation. Most patients find the process comfortable, and we aim to make it as pleasant and efficient as we can.

How long does the procedure take?+

The length of treatment depends on your plan and the type of veneers you choose. Each set is made specifically for you. At your consultation, we will outline your exact timeline and explain which option may suit your goals.

Do porcelain veneers stain?+

Porcelain is less porous than natural teeth, so many foods and drinks that discolour teeth affect veneers less. Even so, you may notice some change in colour over time, particularly where a veneer meets the tooth. At your consultation we can talk through ways to limit this and what to do if it happens.

Can porcelain veneers be whitened?+

No. Porcelain does not respond to whitening agents the way natural teeth do. If you already have veneers and would like a brighter shade, replacing them with a lighter shade may be the best option. If you are planning veneers, we suggest whitening your natural teeth first so your veneers can be matched to your preferred shade.
