Is it better to get a root canal or pull the tooth?

Saving a restorable tooth is usually preferred. Extraction suits teeth that cant be saved.

Which is cheaper, root canal or extraction?

Extraction is cheaper upfront, but replacing the tooth afterwards often makes the total cost higher than a root canal and crown.

Both are done under local anaesthetic. A root canal relieves the pain of infection rather than causing it. Some soreness after either is normal.

When a tooth is severely fractured, decayed, or has a poor long-term prognosis.

The gap left behind can cause your other teeth to shift over time, so a replacement like an implant, bridge or denture is usually recommended.

Root canal recovery is often back to normal by the next day. Extraction recovery, especially surgical, takes a bit longer while the gum heals.

Often yes. Keeping your natural tooth avoids the ongoing cost and hassle of replacing it later.
